Why Build a New Centre
  •

The proposed site for the new centre is on Westerhouse Road where the old Easterhouse Project begun by Frankie Vaughan in the 1960’s was situated.

A number of years ago the building burned to the ground and the site has become derelict. This location is ideal as it is seen historically as ‘neutral territory’ by the people in the local community. For 40 years, young people in Easterhouse used this area to come together in a non threatening environment.

The Phoenix Community and Opportunity Centre is set to rise from the ashes, providing a common ground for all ages to meet, gain support and encouragement to make the changes they themselves need to make. Our mission is to work with the people of Easterhouse, and using the experience of those who come from the estate, to build our vision of a progressive, inclusive and cohesive centre which will be at the heart of the community.

We envisage the centre to include areas for a variety of sporting activities, socialising, education opportunities including IT, cafe, meeting rooms, community bank, therapy rooms. etc.

The people who know this community best are the ones who live it everyday. Our new centre will provide the people of Easterhouse with a facility where they can get the help they need from the people who really understand and appreciate what those needs are.

This is a journey that the people of Easterhouse need to take together, drawing on external expertise and finance where and when appropriate.

Our mission is to help them on this journey and give hope back to the community.
